The Retro Room

Knowing that most men love cars, this room was designed as a “Retro Room”, as the designer calls it.

You enter this room via an antique iron gate.  It also has a keyless lock, in case the owner wants to put collectables in this area.

A local artist has painted a picture of an old DX service station on the back wall.  In front of the station, a “roof”, made from tin that came from an old barn, has been built to act as the place you would drive a car under to get gas.

In the northeast corner is a strange coke machine.  Parts of old coke machines are put together to form an unusual “coke machine” sitting in front of the old station.  However, if you look closely you’ll notice that the front of the machine has hinges and opens as a door.  Behind the door is a unit that does both washes and dries clothes.  A large drawer is built under the washer/dryer to hold detergent and other needed material.  A handy little unit for this floor.

Two of the three heat and air units are located in this room.  However, they are hidden behind some shelves that can be used for collectibles or just storage.  They were made with rollers so if the heat and air units need work, it’s a simple matter of rolling the shelves out, thus freeing the units for repair.

In this room is also a large dumb waiter that continues up the three stories.  This dumb waiter was designed heavy enough to carry wood.  It will hold close to 100 pounds.  This is a convenience that can be used on all three floors.

The "Retro" car room has ceiling tiles with cars embossed on them.  The center of the room is large enough to place a car in, even one of the old Chrysler 300’s that the designers husband collects.  It would also be a perfect place for a pool table and turn this room into a game room.

The ceiling has an unusual fan hanging from the center.  The fan has cars that, when turned on, race around the fan.  The blades have been custom made and each one present a different car from the past.  When the fan is turned on, these old cars once again will have the feeling of racing the wind.

The entire south wall is glass.  There are two large windows on both sides.  In the center there are special doors that go from this room out onto the veranda.  They were custom built so they would open all the way and allow a car to be driven in.  Or, they can be opened just to enjoy the veranda and view.

So, car room?  Game Room?  Room for collections?
It's up to you!

Let's go to the drive-in!
