Utility Room

Boring....NOT!  Since most utility (laundry) rooms are not only boring, so are the chores done in them, the designer wanted this one to be special.  To put a smile on your face when you went there.  This is a tropical room complete with banana trees and monkeys.

There is no door separating the mud room from the laundry room.  However, there is lattice work as a "partial" separator, dropping a few feet from the ceiling.  On the lattice is a very cute sign that reads, what else, "Laundry Room".  This is the beginning.  Beyond the lattice is blue skies with floating clouds above your head.

Let's walk on in, ignoring the east wall for a moment, while we look at the "practical" part of the room.  Well, practical, not "normal".

The room is painted in burnt orange and yellow, or at least three walls are.

The ceiling is covered with lattice work, above which is a painted sky and clouds.  In the center of the ceiling is a delightful light fixture.  It has trees and monkeys.  How fun.

The west wall is burnt orange with yellow trim.  The north and south walls are yellow with burnt orange trim.  Lively and interesting.

The floor is tile, handy for a laundry room.  The tile is the color of sand.

The south wall boasts two huge hot water heaters.  No running out of hot water here.  Shelves are built above the water heaters and extend around most of the room.

The north wall holds the washer and dryer.

Shelves in Laundry

Shelves cover most of the west wall, in the corner and even above the washer & dryer for more storage space.

A large, double sink, is in the northeast corner of the room.  Ideal for the laundry you do by hand or for soaking the "hard to get out" stains.

Now more about the west wall.  The designer calls this the "place to put the things you never know what to do with" wall.

Shelves in Laundry

The west wall has shelves, a small area to hang clothes you want to air dry, and a very unusual shelf which stands against the wall when not needed.  When it is needed, you simply let it down and it becomes a "table".  This is great for folding clothes or laying the items flat you want to air dry.  It also works well for wrapping a gift or any other chore or hobby one would need a table for.

Place to Hang Clothes to Dry

Besides regular laundry necessities, this room can hold things such as small tools, hammers, screwdrivers, etc..  It's a good place to put batteries, bug spray, candles, first aide kit, etc.  All in one place.  Now you CAN find it!

Three of the walls, or items on or in front of, are for work.  The forth wall, the east wall, is for fun.

Once again the designer is playing.  Under the lattice you are in a cabana.  Now, step out from under the lattice and go exotic.  The east wall has a mural, a scene, painted by a local artist.  There is a banana tree with a monkey climbing up.

This will not be a dull place to attend to duties.  Calgon may take you away but you can be drawn into this wall and, even if for a moment, enjoy the carefree happiness of a tropical island.

Dull, this utility room is not!!!
