The Back of Monarch Manor
The back stands three stories tall. The lake can be seen from any floor of the manor. The land slopes gently down the hill to the lake. On the other side of the lake, the land again climbs to a hill, sheltering the hill and adding privacy to the land and manor. A deck surrounds the east, west. and south sides of the main floor. Steps lead to the yard from the east and south side. This large deck is perfect for enjoying the lovely views of the land and for entertaining. Benches are built on the deck with storage underneath to hold the necessary items you will want to keep handy. Located on the south side, on the main level, is the "Summer Kitchen". This is perfect for entertaining and could easily be screened in. It is designed to be a perfect place for eating while enjoying the land and lake. Everything you need for outdoor cooking is situated here. There is a sink, a small refrigerator, a tipanyaka grill, a smoker, and a large corner gas grill. The gas grill has a regular "stove" burner attached for preparing foods not cooked on the grill. The inside kitchen window looks out onto this area. The window is a slider and a shelf has been built underneath. This makes it handy to pass things in and out of the kitchen. For added comfort, delightful ceiling fans have been added to help keep you comfortable on hot days. This is a wonderful place for entertaining family and friends. To the west of the summer kitchen is a small ring shaped area that is an ideal place to put a fire-pit table and chairs. Place ice and drinks in the firepit in the daytime and a warm fire at night. Since this area is not enclosed, it is a great place to enjoy the stars and listen to the night music of the animals, birds, frogs, crickets, etc. With the clear air of Arkansas, especially here, one can truly enjoy the glorious heavens. Following the deck to the west of the manor you'll find a gate. Beyond the gate is the pool area. This above ground pool is an ideal place to relax, have a cool drink, and enjoy family and friends. A deck surrounds the pool so there is plenty of room for everyone. A shower is located just outside the summer kitchen so people can take a quick wash before, and after, being in the pool. The top floor has three private balconies. One is located off the master bedroom, one is off the cave, and one is off the Chinese bedroom. From this height you can really get a grand view of the land and the lake at the bottom of the gently sloping hill. And when you look at the stars, they seem almost close enough to touch. The bottom level has a veranda that goes all the way across the back of the home. Ceiling fans are located all the way across this area also, again for comfort. A misting system was put on the deck above to help keep this area and the one above cooler on a hot summer day. Steps to the west of the veranda lead up to the deck area located between the swimming pool and the summer kitchen. On the east side of the veranda is a lovely fountain. A brick walkway leads to, and around the fountain. The bricks are made from old bricks that were once part of the streets of Jonesboro, Arkansas.
At the center of the veranda is a lovely water garden, complete with charming goldfish. The water from the heat and air flow into this pond, keeping it fresh and lovely. The water flows from this pond to a smaller one, then on to a creek where it drifts gently down the hill to the lake below. (Click on pictures to enlarge)
The gas lights that are on the outside of the home are antique ones from New Orleans.
Reach out and touch the stars!
