The Arrival

First, some about the land of the estate.  The 80 acres are rolling hills of the Ozark Mountain foothills.  In the center of the 80 acres is a spring fed lake which is ideal for fishing, paddle boating, or just watching to relax or enjoy the wildlife.  From the lake, or the home that overlooks it, one can not see another residence.  It’s secluded, private, exclusive, serene.  There is one road in so no one can enter unless you want them to.

According to local legend, via “Uncle John”, a hermit that lived to be over 90, this land has water that is healing, this land was sacred to the Indians because of the water and because this area is enchanted.  He claimed that “special” things happen here.  We would have to agree!

There is about 25 acres that are cleared.  This could be left to be enjoyed as is, or it could be put in crops, such as a personal grape vineyard.  The rest is in woodland.  Areas of the woodland have been cleaned with benches scattered throughout.  One can hike or ride into the wooded areas for times of seclusion, relaxation, or to watch and listen to the wildlife at play.  Other areas of the woodland are left in the “rough” so the animals still have natural habitats in which to live.

Tall stately Oaks stand as though protecting this hidden oasis.  Dogwood and Redbud trees abound to bring beauty and delightful colors in the spring.  Maples dot the landscape to give breathtaking colors in the fall.  Even the driveway into the land gives a feeling of tranquility as one travels past newly planted crepe myrtle down the half mile drive.  Every fall there will be an abundance of color with looks of lush green pasture beyond the fence.

To get to the property you leave the highway and travel a mile down a gravel county road.  Just as the road makes a sharp right, the driveway to the property goes straight ahead.  You drive up a hill, pass a cattle guard and see a sign that says, “Welcome to Butterfly Springs”.  Now you are on the private lane leading to the land itself.

You are on the top of a small hill.  The driveway is about a mile long.

Private Lane to Home

Pasture on North Side of Lane

Along the first part you will notice pasture land on either side.  The pasture belongs to neighbors.  For about the first half mile you will notice Crepe Myrtles have been planted along the north side.  Wisteria, Creeping Phlox and Morning Primrose plays in their shadows.

At the bottom of the hill you will enter the property proper.

The first thing you see on the property is a cute little well house, one of 4 located on the property.  It is located in the woods that are called the Carrot Woods.

Then you will drive over a small private bridge.  A wet weather spring runs under the bridge.  As you look to your right, you notice a cute, very old, shed.

This cute little shed was named after the owner's mother who loves this farm and says she is their "caretaker".  She visits and mows the land.  For her 75th birthday, they bought her a tractor and brush hog.  Quite the little lady.

To your left is a small meadow with great Oaks beyond.  These woods have been named the Turkey Woods because of all the Turkeys that nest here.

From here the lane leads you upward.  Suddenly, the land bursts all around you and all you can see is yours.  It’s serene and exhilarating at the same time.

Now the lane curves to the right, goes up the hill, and just as you top the hill, you see the home.  Standing before you is elegant Monarch Manor.  Fit for a king and as elusive as the butterfly it is named after.

The home is cedar, sitting on top of faux stone that was chosen for the beautiful colors that compliment the homes color and the surrounding area.  The cedar is stained with a stain that was formulated by the designers husband, a chemist who formulated the coating for this home.  It is water proof and takes on an unusual appearance.  The home does not “fade” into the land, as so many do.  And yet, it also is not obtrusive.  Instead, it looks as though it belongs here.  As though this place and this home has become one.  The designer recognized this and you will too.
